Nancy Wilson (jazz singer) was born to Olden Wilson, an ironworker in Chillicothe on February 20, 1937. Her mother, Lillian Ryan worked as a household servant. Nancy was the eldest out of six kids. The first time she recorded was with Rusty Bryants Carolyn Club Big Band, who she performed with between 1956 and 1958. Nancy's initial Dot Records recording was made during her time in the Carolyn Club Big Band. Cannonball Adderley told her to move in New York to further her career, and she moved to The Big Town at the end of 1959. The singer was brought in to perform in The Blue Morocco Night Club in The Bronx, where Adderley's agent had heard her. In 1960, she was signed to Capitol Records.
