Nancy Wilson, a jazz musician and three-time Grammy Award winner was born in Ohio, Chillicothe on 20 February 1937 to Olden Wilson, an ironworker. had worked for a long period as housekeeper. Nancy Wilson was the only child of six. Nancy was heavily influenced by her father's taste in music and the records that were played in her family home. When she was young, she already had an idea of who she was and what she wanted to do. The choir at church was instrumental in developing the talent. After winning a talent competition in a television show around the age of 15, she started appearing regularly in Skyline Melodies, while still in high school. In 1956 she made her debut album along with Rusty Bryant's Carolyn Club Big Band. The group toured with Rusty Bryant between 1956 and 1958. Nancy began her recording career with Dot Records in 1956, as part of the group. Cannonball Adderley told that she should move to New York to further her career and she went to The Big Town at the end of the year 1959. She was commissioned to perform for The Blue Morocco Night Club located in The Bronx, where Adderley's agent had heard her. He signed a contract with Capitol Records in the year 1960. she made her debut that year by releasing the single. Guess who I saw today? Capitol Records issued five Nancy Wilson albums over a time span of 2 years. Under Adderley Wilson's direction, she began to focus on R&B but soon shifted to jazz and torch music. Their collaboration in 1962 with Nancy Wilson and Cannonball Adderley was instrumental in propelling her to prominence and her breakthrough smash Tell Me the Truth in 1963. The song led to a performance in New York's Coconut Grove the premier night club in America that year, and she was a household name.
